Timber Frame Shell Erection
As part of our comprehensive one-stop shop service package Benjamin Allen Bespoke Homes offer a high quality timber frame shell erection service. This is included in our standard frame assembly quotation package.
The timber frame building sets are delivered directly from our workshop to your site by our own transport fleet and offloaded using one of our approved crane suppliers. Hence there is no reliance on the vagaries of some third party; every aspect is under our close management control. Most of the structural elements of the building set are delivered on day one although, for larger structures, some deliveries may be phased. Roof trusses, windows and external doors often form a separate delivery, as do external cladding, fascia boards and insulation materials.
The Benjamin Allen Timber Frame Shell Erection Service process has been tailored to offer a friendly, professional, safe, fast and efficient service. By using our Erection Service Benjamin Allen have complete and direct control and will ensure everything moves swiftly and efficiently from design, through manufacture and transport to site erection. All our timber frames are erected by our first-class directly employed Benjamin Allen Shell Team consisting of professional timber frame erectors who are experienced carpenters. Erection periods vary between one and three weeks, depending upon the size of the building, and the complexity of the design. Once the order has been placed a shell erection programme will be issued to you the client which will include key milestones and dates keeping you fully informed.
All of this is overseen by the Benjamin Allen Shell Operation Manager allocated to deliver your dream home. As part of this process our Shell Operation Manger will:
- Visit your building plot once you have placed your order to conduct a feasibility study
- Arrange the correct delivery vehicles, cranes and additional plant if required
- Produce the necessary method statements and risk assessments for the shell erection
- Draw up a scaffold plan and schedule
- Ensure that you understand the build process and all that it entails
- Ensure that you understand your responsibilities for health and safety
- Oversee the deliveries, logistics and processes involved in constructing the timber frame kit
When the shell erection has been virtually completed, but prior to the shell team leaving the site, a handover inspection will be carried out. The inspection normally takes approximately 3 hours, depending on the size and complexity of the building. You will be advised of the date of this visit and, following his detailed inspection, the Operations Manager will go through with you and/or your main contractor or project manager his findings as well as any work outstanding yet to be completed or rectified by the shell team.
Benjamin Allen will check that all the materials required for the completion of the structure are on site. Our Operations Manager will go through with you the various materials and help identify and specify their use and will also advice on storage and protection of the materials on site. The Operations Manager will also spend time with you and your builder running through the sequence of work following the departure of the shell erection team and answer any questions you may have.
It is also worth highlighting that if you choose our complete building set package, the external doors and windows are installed on site. Depending on the situation, this gives many advantages including having a watertight structure once the Benjamin Allen shell erection team have completed on site.
